History

The Community Outreach Church of Columbus started as Columbus Community Bible Study. The Bible study started as a monthly fellowship  with 18 people at the home of Lussius and Sandra Anderson. It started as a fellowship meal and ended with Elder Sandra Anderson teaching a short Bible study lesson. The group began to meet weekly and expected the fellowship to end with a lesson. Elder Sandra began to seek the Lord for direction and instruction. After after sharing her vision with her husband and pastor, she went forth with their blessings. Upon being established November 20, 2006 the ministry held their first class on Thursday May 3, 2007 with about 30 students.

From the living room to a borrowed building, then back to the Anderson’s home for a season, Columbus Community Bible Study began to hold classes  at 3360 Buena Vista Road, Suite 14, Columbus, Georgia. On April 30, 2009, the Bible study became Community Outreach Church of Columbus. God has been and continues to be faithful. When God gives a vision, He makes provision.

Who We Are:

We live in a broken world that continues to pursue its failing strategies for meaning and fulfillment in life. While most people look good on the outside, their lives are often accurately characterized by anger, pride, guilt, lust, selfindulgence, confusion and despair. In seeking our own remedies, mankind continues its downward spiral separate from God. Our only and blessed assurance is the person of Jesus Christ and a relationship with Him. In order for people to turn to Christ, they must be told about Him and see His reality displayed in the lives of His followers. At Community Outreach Church of Columbus, it is our passion to be people that will point people and lead people to Jesus Christ.

Our Mission
is to know Him, and the power of His resurrection, the fellowship of His suffering, being made conformable unto His death.

Our Purpose: Community Outreach Church of Columbus is a church with outreach at its core. God called us to “set the captives free” according to Isaiah 61:1-3.

Our Vision is three-fold:
1. To Be a Biblical Church —That in all areas: Worship, Spiritual Gifts, Prayer, and Ministry, we are determined to submit all beliefs and practices to the evaluation of sound biblical doctrine that is found in the Bible.
2. To Be a Christ Centered Church —That all we believe and practice is to be centered on the Person of Jesus Christ and His Finished Work on the Cross. This is to be our main focus and emphasis for ministry and practice, with the goal of becoming mature in the love of Christ. We expect the Holy Spirit to be at work to empower us to lay hold of the rich inheritance we have in Jesus Christ our Lord.
3. To be An Outgoing Church —That we see the Lord’s desire for us demonstrate God’s love through our concern and care, by preaching the whole counsel of God making disciples, and facilitating fellowship. We are called to reach out to a lost and dying world and fulfill the ministry of the Lord Jesus Christ as stated in the following Scripture:

The Spirit of the Lord GOD is upon me; because the LORD hath anointed me to preach good tidings unto the meek; he hath sent me to bind up the brokenhearted, to proclaim liberty to the captives, and the opening of the prison to them that are bound;

NOTE: Historically, people have been divided over denominational traditions and customs. Pastor Sandra L.  Anderson is a Pentecostal and will teach the whole counsel of God. However, here at  Community Outreach Church of Columbus, we have decided to focus on what unifies us as believers.

We Believe:
The Bible (Old and New Testament): We believe the Bible is the inspired, infallible, authoritative Word of God, without error in the original languages.

God: We believe the One true God manifest Himself in three persons: the Father, the Son and the Holy Spirit known as the Trinity or Triune God.

Jesus: We believe in the deity of Jesus Christ, His Virgin birth, His sinless life, His miracles, His victorious and atoning death, His bodily resurrection, His complete conquest over the power of Satan, His ascension to the right hand of the Father, and His sure return.

The Holy Spirit: We believe in the present ministry of the Holy Spirit, by whose indwelling Christians are enabled to live Godly lives.

The Church: We believe the Church consists of all those who truly believe in Jesus Christ and His atoning death, and who trust in Him as their Lord and Savior. We believe in the spiritual unity of all that believe in the Lord Jesus Christ.

Salvation: We believe that regeneration by the Holy Spirit is essestial for salvation of lost men and women, and that this salvation is wholly by grace, through faith. This salvation is not only eternal life after we die but also includes the abundant life while we are still on earth.

Baptism of the Holy Spirit: We believe in the baptism of the Holy Spirit with the initial evidence of speaking in other tongues as the Spirit gives the utterance according to Acts 2:4, and in the operation of the spiritual gifts and ministries.

Gifts of the Holy Spirit: We believe that all of the gifts of the Holy Spirit as listed in 1 Corinthians 12 are still available and operational in the Body of Christ today.

Baptism and Communion: We believe in the command of Jesus to be water baptized (immersion). We also believe in the ordinance of Holy Communion in remembrance of what Jesus did for us through His death and resurrection.

Heaven and Hell: We believe in the eternal destination of both the lost and the saved. The lost unto eternal damnation; the saved unto eternal life.
